Melanie B - Word Up

"Word Up" was Melanie B's second single, a cover of Cameo's 1980s hit. Released on 28th June 1999, the single reached #14 in the UK charts, partly a result of poor promotion, though it was also on the soundtrack to "Austin Powers 2" which increased worldwide exposure of the song. "Word Up" sold nearly 77,000 copies in the UK, which was the lowest selling Spice Girls-related single of the 1990s, maybe with a better video the song could have entered higher. Also, on entry week, sales from the last three days weren't counted for all singles because of a technical problem, though this would have made very little impact on Melanie's final chart position.
